Longtime consultant and salesperson for in-coming conferences to Boston, Donna has developed teams at Historic Museums and Venues, John F. Kennedy Library, Brandeis University, and many venerable and start-up businesses. Her successful motivational speaking/ workshops on Time Management, Personal Public Relations, Courage in Workplace, as well as Intern Programs at various non-and-for profit companies, have run concurrently with the work she does at Tharros House. At Park Place, Wade noticed a subset of teenagers who needed a different kind of care, including longer term housing and intensive therapy. A lot of conversations arose about the need for a facility like Tharros Place, but Wade knew something like that would take a lot of money.
Tharros House is a private peer program which is not affiliated with any state or federal offerings. Testimonials are available on our site, and we are happy to connect you with families and past clients who can share their experience with you. We take privacy seriously, and client information is not shared with any outside sources, except those affiliated with treatment, or which the client otherwise requests. Monthly fees at Tharros include food for all meals and snacks, transportation by our team in commercially insured SUVs, all activities, Tharros groups, and peer mentoring support.

”…My quick retort was “Yes, I am very much at home in a kitchen… There is a communal kitchen and dining room, a room for online schooling, and a nice, secluded backyard. Girls will attend school onsite daily, participate in counseling, and work with staff to create a plan for the future. She met her future husband, Drew Wade BS ’97, AB ’97, in high school, and they both attended the University of Georgia. As an Honors student, Wade created her own undergraduate major, a mix of all the things she loved including history, literature, and political science.
Donna holds a BFA from The University of Massachusetts Amherst. Since 1991, she has immersed herself offering vocational assistance to recovering people. At Tharros, Donna coaches clients to develop a personal “tool kit” of useful language, ideals, and methods to insure a smooth transition into the “real world”. Melissa pulls from her extensive knowledge from years in the medical field in the area of Occupational Therapy. As a Boston area native, she is returning home after nine years in Los Angeles working with individuals recovering from a variety of conditions and illnesses, including mood disorders and substance use disorder.

When teaching cooking with “my guys”, I am not a professional cook; I am a human being, cooking. Just because we may dump too much cinnamon in an apple turnovers doesn’t mean we aren’t “good enough”; we just let it go and move forward. I don’t want them to be tense with feelings of pressure to do it the “right” way or feel shame if they do it “wrong”. I want to leave room for creativity and mistakes and self acceptance because these are all part of life.
Tharros offers a shared (double) space for $9,500 per month. Melissa provides Tharros House with evidence-based intervention strategies, including empirically supported practices for substance use disorder (SUD). More specifically, she offers didactic training and psychoeducation among the Tharros Team Members. She has hosted field experts in motivational interviewing (MI) to provide team member training and continuously seeks ways to provide education and support among the Tharros House team.

With no judgement we can feel safe to explore and emerge; we get a chance to see ourselves in a new light. I’m so proud of these guys who are diligently working their recovery. Stepping out of themselves, entering the kitchen and asking “how do I separate an egg? “ Their courage brings me back each week; their progress is inspiring. Asking vulnerable questions in the kitchen encourages them to do the same when they step out into the world. When they get the hang of a skill, they can then turn to a buddy who needs assistance.
So in 2017, Wade left her law career to become executive director of Park Place Outreach, an emergency crisis center for homeless youth in Savannah. She saw improvements for some tharros house in the program but was also frustrated by its limits, namely that kids couldn’t live at the shelter for more than 30 days.
